    Oct. 03

    Book Club will meet

    WILLIAMSTON – The Martin County Book Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Martin Memorial Library.

    Library Assistant Heather Nelson will lead a discussion of The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris. The book is available at the desk.

    Virtual meeting options are available for those who can’t attend in person.

    First Friday Music Series set

    PLYMOUTH – The First Fridays Music Series will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at 118 Washington St. in Plymouth.

    Singer/Songwriter Brian Burke will be featured.

    The event is sponsored by the Plymouth Downtown Development Association.

    Oct. 05

    Roanoke River Festival set

    HAMILTON – The town of Hamilton will present the Roanoke River Festival on Saturday, Oct. 5.

    The event will be held at the Morris Lynch Center, which is located at 301 South Front St. in Hamilton.

    It will feature live music, food and games.

    Annual Community Fish Fry planned

    PLYMOUTH – The annual free Community Fish Fry and Entertainment is planned for 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Flowers Park located 302 East Water St. in Plymouth.

    The event is sponsored by Washington County Faith and Blue and will feature a sack race, tug-of-war and face painting.

    Oct. 08

    Story Time planned at MML

    WILLIAMSTON – Story Time will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Martin Memorial Libarary.

    Youth Services Library Assistant Jessika Patrick will introduce preschoolers to the joys of reading. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

    Oct. 09

    Fall Festival slated

    WILLIAMSTON – Special Olympics Martin County is presenting a Fall Festival from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the Godwin Coppage Park Softball Complex.

    The event will feature music, food, games and fun for all.

    Godwin Coppage Park is located at 1073 Tyner Rd. in Williamston.

    Oct. 10

    Eastern NC Veterans Benefits Update

    WILLIAMSTON — AM Vets Post 227 will be hosting an Eastern North Carolina Veteran’s Benefits Update update from 8:30 a.m. — 1 p.m. at the Moratoc Park Building.

    Some of the topics include Veterans Crisis Hotline, VR Life Insurance, NC Veterans State Benefits, Veteran’s Nursing Homes and Vocational Rehabilitation and Education. Other topics include veteran healthcare, veterans pensions, survivor benefits, The Pact Act, rating a claim and veteran disability compensation.

    Lunch, provided by AMVETS Post No. 227, will be provided from 1 p.m. until. RSVP to 252-789-4398.

    Evening Book Club

    WILLIAMSTON – Evening Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at Martin Memorial Libarary.

    Library Clerk Sharon Godard will lead a discussion of Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen.

    Wills and Estate Clinic set

    WILLIAMSTON – Legal Aid of NC will host a free information session addressing wills and estates at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at Martin Memorial Library.

    The discussion will include advanced planning and how it could help avoid common legal issues.

    Walk for Dementia

    HAMILTON — The 13th annual walk for dementia will be held beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

    Oct. 15

    Blood Drive planned

    WINDSOR – The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 2-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Windsor Community Building.

    The blood drive is being sponsored by Bertie County Farm Bureau.

    Community Book Club set

    WILLIAMSTON – The Community Book Club will meet at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Martin Memorial Library.

    Yoga Class Planned

    WILLIAMSTON — There will be a Yoga Class at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 in the meeting room at the Martin County Community College library.

    Instructor Tammy Williams will lead the class.

    Oct. 19

    Historic Sites Tour slated

    OAK CITY – A Historic Sites Tour in northwestern Martin County is planned for 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19.

    The event will begin at Oak City Christian Church, which is located at 310 West Commerce St. in Oak City.

    Tickets are $5 per person. A map/souvenir booklet is available for charting a course through the 14 sites.

    The event will be part of Martin County’s 250th anniversary celebration.

    Benefits will support the Martin County Historical Society.

    Oct. 22

    Story Time set at MML

    WILLIAMSTON – Story Time will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Martin Memorial Library.

    WILLIAMSTON – An Adult Acrylic Painting Class will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Martin Memorial Library.

    Mika Davis will present an instructional video of how to paint a vintage pumpkin truck.

    Instruction is free, but participants should bring their own supplies.

    Morning Book Club meets

    WILLIAMSTON – The Morning Book Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Martin Memorial Library.

    Library Assistant Kit Reddick will lead a discussion of The Lifeguards by Amanda Eyre Ward.

    Movie Night planned

    WILLIAMSTON – Halloween Movie Night is planned for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Martin Memorial Library.

    Those in attendance will view Beetlejuice.

    Snacks will be provided and participants are invited to wear their favorite costume.

    Oct. 26

    Chicken Mull Festival slated

    BEAR GRASS – The annual Bear Grass Chicken Mull Festival is planned for 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 in downtown Bear Grass.

    The event will feature chicken mull, food, fun and arts and crafts available. There will also be a Classic Car Cruise in.

    Historic Hope’s Haunted Forest planned

    WINDSOR – Historic Hope’s Haunted Forest is planned for 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.

    Hot dogs, fries and soft drinks will be available from Bubba’s Road Side Grill.

    Admission is $5 per person, but the event is not recommended for young children.

    Historic Hope is located at 132 Hope House Rd. in Windsor.

    Election Date

    WINDSOR — The 2024 General Election Date is November 5.

    36th Annual Holiday Sale

    WILSON — The Hearthside Craft Guild is hosting their annual sale from Nov. 07 — 09 at the Wilson Agriculture Center.

    On Thursday and Friday the sale will open at 9 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. On Saturday the sale will open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.

    Entry to the sale is free.

    Wilson Agriculture Center is located at 1805 South Goldsboro St. in Wilson.

    Holiday Show planned

    WILSON – The Healthside Craft Guild will host the 36th annual Holiday Sale Nov. 8-10 at the Wilson Agriculture Center.

    The event will be open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.

    Craftsmen will sell locally produced arts and crafts. There will be a quilt raffle for $1 with all proceeds going to the Veterans Residential Services.

    MARTIN COUNTY — Martin County transit will be providing free rides for persons living in Martin County.

    This is while funding lasts. Anyone can ride.

    WILLIAMSTON — Become a Guardian ad Litem Program volunteer to help abused and neglected children.

    No specific education or experience is required to volunteer for this program; only a true desire to “be a voice for a child in the community”.

    WILLIAMSTON — Martin County Shrinettes Club holds its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. the third Monday of each month.

    Shrinettes are the wives, mothers, widows, sisters, daughters or stepdaughters of a Shriner, who are 18 years or older.

    Any advancement of the club is welcome. Come join the fun and fellowship.

    Skill Building Sessions

    ROBERSONVILLE — Robersonville Public Library is offering 30-minute, one-on-one sessions with library staff providing customized help and skill building to members of the community, free of charge.

    Examples include learning to navigate the library, building computer skills, research and more.

    These sessions must be scheduled in advance by calling 252-508-0342.

    Classes available

    High School Equivalency classes are available both day and night in Williamston, Robersonville and Windsor.

    Funds are available to assist qualified students with the $80 fee for taking the high school equivalency tests (formerly GEDs). All basic skills classes are free.
