And just like that, the MLB regular season is over. It's been another great year for professional baseball. Paul Skenes took the world by storm, Shohei Otani had one of the greatest single seasons of all-time, the Phillies are locked and loaded to (hopefully) make another deep run, and the battle for Wildcard spots came down to the final day, just as it should. While the fans of the 12 teams that made the postseason all have delusional hopes that their squad will go on a run, fans of the other 18 teams are settling in to casually watch the October madness and wait around for Spring Training to start. One of the teams that came close but just couldn't sneak into the postseason was the Chicago Cubs, who played their final game of the season yesterday at Wrigley Field. Unfortunately, they lost 3-0 to the Reds, finishing the season 2nd in the NL Central (tied with the Cardinals), but before the game, left fielder Ian Happ made sure those die-hards seated behind him in the left field bleachers were going to have a good day. As he ran out to take the field, he tossed a baseball and a few hundred bucks to someone in the crowd. Written on the ball was this message:
"Thanks for the support all season! Beers for the left field crew on me!" https://www.instagram.com/p/DAg2M81vJyX/?img_index=1 https://www.instagram.com/p/DAiq60pR8eh/ What a classy move by a great guy. Some fans commented that he does this every season, which is just another reason why baseball is the best. Sure, it's long and not as physically exciting as football, but there's something special about America's pastime that we should all be grateful for. How can you not be romantic about baseball?
