Joel Embiid Drops Huge Revelation Ahead of NBA Season

Joel Embiid may look unrecognizable to Philadelphia 76ers fans this coming season.

The Sixers star was the center of attention Sunday during media day held at the team's practice facility in Camden, New Jersey.

One of the more interesting nuggets Embiid dropped to reporters was a major recomposition he's undertaken with his body.

The seven-time All-Star told reporters that "he's lost 25-30 pounds" and fully intends to cut even more weight before the start of next season. Embiid was listed at 280 pounds last season, which made him one of the heaviest players in the league.

Embiid added that his goal is to remain healthy ahead of what appears to be his best shot at a title throughout his decade-long career.

After his MVP campaign two years ago, Embiid looked even more dominant to begin last season.

In 34 games before the All-Star break, Embiid averaged a blistering 35.3 points on 53.3% shooting to go along with 11.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.8 blocks per game.

However, Embiid suffered a knee injury in January that kept him out for over two months. The seven-time All-Star returned in April, playing in five games before the start of the 2024 playoffs.

Embiid's size has been one of his biggest strengths throughout his career. But sacrificing some of his heft to lessen the burden on his knees could go a long way in preserving his health for the postseason.

With an MVP award in his trophy cabinet and a new All-Star teammate in Paul George , Embiid has his sights set on winning his first title.
