Incomplete Karl-Anthony Towns trade had a funny impact on Knicks' Media Day

Karl-Anthony Towns will be part of the New York Knicks — eventually.

The Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves agreed to a blockbuster deal to send Towns to the Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.

However, the deal is not official yet — the Knicks still need to send out salary to make it work, and a third team, the Charlotte Hornets , will help facilitate the deal.

Because the trade hasn't been officially completed yet, certain parties like coaches and front office members can't comment on it. That made the timing awkward for Knicks Media Day, where members of the team could not — or chose not — to comment on their incoming All-Star big man. ( According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post , players can comment on the reports, but several Knicks chose not to).

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau first plainly said he wouldn't comment on the deal. He later had some fun with it when a reporter asked about his relationship with Towns from Thibodeau's time coaching the Wolves.

Jalen Brunson also had fun with the unusual situation, pretending he had know idea who "Karl" is.

Josh Hart pretended he hadn't heard about the trade.

    OG Anunoby refused to comment.

Mikal Bridges was a bit more open about Towns, but didn't exactly offer much.

Hart later opened up, discussing the difference Towns' floor-spacing will make.

Several Knicks did, however, comment on the departures of Randle and DiVincenzo.

Brunson showed appreciation for how Randle welcomed him to New York while also alluding to his close bond with DiVincenzo.

Meanwhile, Hart suggested both players should receive warm welcomes when they return to Madison Square Garden for the first time.
