Man arrested after mother found decapitated at home in Glendale

Police say a man is in custody after his mother was found decapitated at her home Friday night near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Glendale.

Glendale police first responded to an injured person call around 11:45 p.m. for a welfare check.

When officers arrived, they found the woman dead, under a blanket, with her head decapitated nearby.

The woman's son, 25-year-old Alejandro Gonzalez, was living with her at the time of the murder, according to court paperwork. Gonzalez's family said that he has mental health issues and had recently been released from jail. Gonzalez was also seen driving a vehicle that had just left the home after the murder was believed to be committed.

Glendale police officials are expected to provide an update on the incident at 1 p.m. ABC15 will stream the press conference live on streaming devices and in the player below.

Once he was located by police and questioned, Gonzalez reportedly admitted to the murder. Gonzalez allegedly told police that another man had stabbed her first and that he then stabbed her to stop her from being in pain. Police have found no evidence of a second person involved in her murder.

Gonzalez faces one count of first-degree murder and one count of vehicle theft.

The victim has not been identified.
