Major League Baseball is making what should be a popular change to the All-Star Game.

MLB announced Monday that players will once again wear team uniforms at the All-Star Game starting in 2025. The league will still have a special All-Star uniform, but it will only be worn by players during on-field workouts and at the Home Run Derby when not participating.

This is a change that will likely be lauded by fans and players alike. Fans, in particular, have called for this change for years, as this was largely how the All-Star Game was done up until 2021, when Nike and MLB began partnering to create special uniforms. They were never popular with fans and derided as a cash grab, but commissioner Rob Manfred was dismissive of calls for change . His tone started to shift after the most recent All-Star Game in 2024, when even some players said they would prefer to go back to how things were.

This may be something of a goodwill gesture from the league toward fans considering how much of a disaster the league’s new uniform designs were in 2024. A lot of those changes are also going to be reversed for the 2025 season.
