We had bookbags that looked like briefcases with a shoulder strap. And no one would carry one past second or third grade. My locker was so far away from my classes in jr high and high school that I'd go in the morning and get all my books and supplies until my next locker stop after lunch, when I'd get the remaining three classes of books, binders, and notebooks. I'd make one last trip before leaving school. No one used a backpack. Generations of kids went to, through, and home from school without backpacks. And we didn't have stuff on a school tablet, we had actual books for each class. But for some reason, today's kids can't manage their school supplies and remember to bring them to class without a bookbag!
