Kentucky Utilities reports most of Fayette County back online after Hurricane Helene power outages

Officials with Lexington’s biggest power company, Kentucky Utilities, say nearly everyone in Fayette County has had power restored following the remnants of Hurricane Helene last Friday.

95 percent of LG&E and KU customers had their power restored as of Monday afternoon. The utility has been working through Monday night to get its remaining 8,000 customers back online. They estimate everyone in Fayette County will have power restored by 11 p.m. Monday night.

Utility spokesperson Drew Gardner says the last areas to have power restored were in “remote parts” of the county, and crews worked in difficult terrain.

“It’s the complexity of the damages,” Gardner said. “Some of the poles are in backyards of homes where you have to first remove trees that are down, and then bring in special equipment into those areas. They have to navigate very safely and carefully to get in there to begin doing the work.”

Gardner says to check the utility’s online outage map, and to report if any outages are still happening to make sure it’s as accurate as possible.
