Tia Mowry believes it’s “normal” that she and her twin sister, Tamera, aren’t as “close” as they once were.
“You start as siblings in a household and a family, and as we grow up and start our own families, it is very normal for all of us to take on new roles and responsibilities when it comes to our life,” the actress told People Monday, after speaking on their relationship earlier this month.
The “Sister, Sister” star acknowledged that Tamera has a “family of her own,” so it’s “normal” and “very natural” for them to focus on their respective lives and families.
“There’s so much love there. There’s this beautiful bonding connection that we have that will never leave,” she clarified. “My sister and I have always been women of inspiration, and we will continue to. And why would that change now?”
Tia, 46, reiterated that that the whole situation is “just a part” of life.
“People have started to create their own families. It is what it is and that’s OK,” she explained, adding, “There’s no hard feelings.”
The “Tia Mowry: My Next Act” star made headlines two weeks ago when she admitted she was struggling with “being alone” and not feeling “close” with Tamera amid her divorce from Hardrict.
“It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could pick up the phone and call her but that’s just not where we are right now,” she said in a preview for her upcoming reality TV show.
After fans went wild over the revelation, the actress clarified her comments in an interview with Us Weekly.
“This is basically what I was insinuating: I feel like as we grow up, we all start our own families and their children need to lean on them. We begin to take on new roles and responsibilities within our lives. That is what that was all about,” she told the outlet.
“Sometimes you just want a hug and you just want someone to be as accessible as they used to be, and that is not the case. It’s called life,” she said.
Tia said that regardless of the chatter, they have a “beautiful connection” and love each other “very much.”
Tamera –– who shares kids Aden, 11, and Ariah, 9, with husband, Adam Housley –– has yet to address her sister’s comments.
The twin sisters rose to fame on “Sister, Sister” from 1994 to 1999. They then worked on a variety of Disney shows and movies before transitioning into the reality TV world with “Tia & Tamera.”
