3 Ways To Save Money Shopping at Kroger, According to Money Expert, George Kamel

Groceries are less expensive than eating out, but inflation has made even grocery shopping feel financially stressful for many Americans. However, there are several good ways to save on groceries, according to money expert George Kamel.
Kamel is all about maximizing the bang for your buck. In an Instagram post, the best-selling author and popular YouTuber broke down his top saving hacks when shopping at the grocery giant Kroger. Keep reading to learn more about Kamel’s three best ways to cut back on your spending without cutting back on your groceries .
Once upon a time, you only knew what was on sale once you got to the store. That’s not the case if you download Kroger’s app.
It tells you what’s on sale at your local store before you make your list, so you can meal plan around your budget . In addition to listing sale items, the Kroger app also offers digital coupons on a variety of products every week, letting you lock in additional savings.
Kamel also noted, “On select Fridays, they have a free Friday item that is 100% free.”
What better way to save than to get free groceries? The Kroger app is available in both the App Store and Google Play Store.
Yellow tags at Kroger indicate items that are on sale. Kamel said to always look for the yellow tags, “especially when it says 10/$10.” That means an item is $1 each.
Better yet, you don’t have to buy 10 to get the deal; you can still buy one for only $1. Or you could buy five for $5, six for $6… you see what we’re getting at.
In the post, Kamel highlighted a 10/$10 deal he got on Core Hydration water. This is just one of the many yellow tag deals you can find each time you shop at Kroger.
Shop the Kroger Brands
More often than not, name brands are more expensive than Kroger brands. Fortunately, Kroger offers branded options for everything from lunch meat and condiments to staples like butter, milk and eggs.
In his post, Kamel showcased a 20-ounce bottle of Kroger-brand yellow mustard that was on sale for a dollar. The name brand alternative? $3.49 for the same amount.
Don’t forget, Kroger brands aren’t just Kroger! There are several Kroger-owned brands in each store, including Kroger, Private Selection, Simple Truth and Smart Way, among others. If you’re not sure which brands are Kroger, you can always use the app to sort by Kroger brands and occasionally find special discounts.
Look for these brands and compare them to brand-name competitor prices. You’ll be happy you did.
More Ways To Save
Kamel offers some great insights on how to save while shopping at Kroger, but the commenters offer up even more great hacks:
Use the Kroger app to get personalized coupons based on what you buy the most, and accumulate Fuel Points to save at the pump, too.
Look for the markdown shelf , where dented or close-to-expiring products are marked to extra low prices.
Compare unit prices to find the best bang for your buck. A lower unit price means getting a better deal, even if the packaging is smaller.
Saving money is at the top of many Americans’ minds today. With all of these tips, you can save every time you shop for groceries at Kroger without making sacrifices to your home-cooked meals.
