NBC Reporter Grills Trump on Claim That Biden Isn’t Sending Aid to Republican Hurricane Victims: ‘Do You Have Any Evidence?’

NBC News correspondent Garrett Haake pressed former President Donald Trump over his baseless claim that the Biden administration is not helping Republicans victimized by Hurricane Helene.

The storm slammed the southeastern United States over the weekend and hit North Carolina particularly hard. On Monday, Trump falsely asserted that President Joe Biden and his administration are “going out of their way to not help people in Republican areas” in the Tar Heel State. On the contrary, Biden promptly approved disaster declarations in both Carolinas and Florida to allow victims to tap into federal resources. Moreover, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other federal departments have been in the areas to assist in those areas and other states impacted.

Trump was in Valdosta, Georgia on Monday to survey some of the damage when Haake asked him about his wild accusation.

“What is that a reference to?” the reporter asked.

“Take a look,” Trump responded.

“Where’s that coming from?” Haake pressed. “Do you have any evidence for that, Mr. President?”

As the former president walked away, a man with a drawl yelled, “You gotta vote Trump, people!”

Afterward, Haake translated Trump’s answer as, “I’ve got nothing for you right now. Go find it yourself.” The reporter said he tried asking Trump again a short time later, but he “didn’t have any better luck there.”
