Cowboys Urged to Finally Make Major Move on 6,200-Yard RB

If you want to find the Cowboys on the list of NFL rushing attacks, you will have to scroll down pretty far. In fact, you've got to scroll all the way to the bottom of the league because, at 75.3 yards per game , the Dallas rushing game sits at 32nd. That's also known as dead last.

It was a widely accepted projection that the Cowboys would take a step backward in the rush game this season, after letting 1,000-yard back Tony Pollard leave in free agency and adding 29-year-old Ezekiel Elliott, who had lost a step even before he briefly left Dallas last year.

The Cowboys have attempted to construct a "committee" approach to the run game, with Rico Dowdle quietly slipping ahead of Elliott in the pecking order. Still, no matter who's the No. 1 back, Dallas clearly does not have enough at the position.

Ah, but they do have a three-time 1,100-yard rusher on the roster, albeit on the practice squad. That would be Davlin Cook, signed on August 28 to the Cowboys' practice squad. It sure looks like time to activate him.

In an article titled, "It's time for the Cowboys to elevate RB Dalvin Cook to the active roster," the analysis site Blogging the Boys makes the case that, obviously, it's time for Cook to be elevated.

No, Cook is not the same player he was when he amassed 6,207 yards in his seven seasons, mostly with Minnesota. But the Cowboys should be desperate enough now to give him a look to bolster a moribund running back group.

As BtB wrote: "Being one of the most electrifying runners in the league isn't where Cook is in his career. ... However, with the Cowboys only averaging 3.5 per rush, they have to try and find someone who can provide a spark. Cook needs to get into football shape, which comes with playing actual games, but he does have fresh legs, and he just feels like the guy that has the best chance on the Cowboys to bring some sizzle to the running back room."

Cook has had more than a month to learn the Cowboys offense and get into game shape. This is the worst running game in the league. There's little to lose in giving him a shot.
