First meeting set for Venice Area Garden Club

VENICE — The Venice Area Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the season at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 3 in Naal Hall at United Church of Christ, 620 Shamrock Blvd.

The meeting is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

It will have a “Mad Hatter Tea Party” theme in which club members will plant succulents or create floral arrangements in a mug or teacup that they bring. Those “Cups of Cheer” will then be delivered to a local assisted living facility.

Venice Area Garden Club is a service club with a large group of volunteers. It maintains several gardens and parks in Venice and contributes financially to local projects.

The club is particular known for hosting its Home and Garden Tour with a plant sale that is set for March 7-8, 2025. Proceeds from the sale fund the VAGC scholarship program, which benefits local high school seniors and the beautification of the city of Venice.

Many members participate in floral design workshops. This is open to new and experienced designers. The workshops are ongoing, and club members have received awards at the state level for their work.

The club also provides local information on growing native plants, flowers and trees.
