TMZ has reported that MLB legend Pete Rose has passed away at the age of 83. He was found at his Las Vegas home, and his agent Ryan Fiterman confirmed the news. Rose's cause of death is unknown at this time.

Rose is one of the greatest baseball players of all-time. He is the career leader in hits with 4,256 and was a 17-time All-Star. Rose won three World Series titles in his career and was named the 1973 National League MVP.  He also holds all-time career records in games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053), singles (3,215), and outs (10,328).

Rose came up through the Cincinnati Reds organization and made his MLB debut in 1963, going on to win Rookie of the Year that season. He spent 15 years playing for the 'Big Red Machine', before becoming the highest-paid athlete in sports at the time, signing a four-year, $3.2 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Rose played for the Montreal Expos in 1984 but was traded back to the Reds on Aug. 15. Cincinnati named him player-manager, and he is the last person to ever hold that role in the MLB. He ended his career after 24 years, winning two World Series with the Reds and another with the Phillies.

Rose's career was tainted by his involvement with gambling on baseball games, which resulted in his receiving a lifetime ban from the sport three years after he retired. Still, as time has passed, there has been a growing call for Rose to finally be enshrined in Cooperstown. It is seen as a disservice that it did not happen while Rose was alive, and many suspect that he will now be enshrined since he has passed.
