Picayune Police Respond to Multiple Incidents

Officers responded to multiple incidents in Picayune this week, including a reported shooting at Highland Community Hospital, drug-related arrests, and a shooting into a dwelling.

On Sept. 26 at 2:53 p.m., officers responded to a call at Highland Community Hospital. Helena Malone reported that she had shot her mother and needed assistance. Before officers arrived, Malone also shot herself. Both were transported to the hospital’s emergency room but later died of their injuries. The incident took place inside a vehicle near the emergency room drop-off area. No other individuals were injured.

In another incident on Sept. 26, detectives with the Picayune Police Department Special Operations Division conducted a probable cause traffic stop on Palestine Road near Union School Road. The vehicle, a red Nissan Sentra, was searched, and the driver, Alex Cooper, and passenger, Chantea Brown, were found in possession of cocaine intended for distribution. Both were charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church, as well as tampering with physical evidence.

Following the traffic stop, detectives executed a search warrant at 602 Richard Street, the residence of Travis Holloway. Holloway fled the area on foot but was apprehended. He attempted to discard illegal narcotics, which K-9 Trea later found. Kelvin Stallings was also located at the residence at the time of the search warrant. Through investigation, detectives determined that Holloway had been in a vehicle with Stallings before their arrival. Both Holloway and Stallings were charged with trafficking a controlled substance (cocaine), while Holloway also faced charges of tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest by fleeing.

On Sept. 27 at 11:59 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired into a dwelling on Nixon Street. A grandmother and her two young grandchildren were inside at the time, and bullets traveled near their location. Investigators believe the suspect was on foot and fired approximately 14 shots at close range. Detectives are reviewing video surveillance from several places in connection with this incident.
