Man buys Taylor Swift's autographed guitar at auction before destroying it with hammer

It’s safe to say that many Swifties are confused by a particular auction buyer who bought Taylor Swift’s signed guitar only to ruin it.

The aforementioned guitar was donated to the auction prior to the pop star publicly endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president, according to the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner organization, per TMZ. It was proven that the Teardrops On My Guitar songstress did in fact sign the instrument because a certificate of authenticity confirmed that it was as it was donated to the auction by a third party.

Of course, Taylor’s guitar wasn’t donated to be destroyed even though it ended up happening.

In a video that’s going around online, a silver grey-haired man is seen grabbing a hammer, and completely destroying the autographed instrument after spending a whopping $4,000 on it. According to TMZ, “the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner is a non-profit supporting agricultural education for local youth, and the money went to a good cause.”

The man can be heard giggling as he reveled in demolishing the guitar. Also, at a certain point, it seemed like he was going to further smash the guitar some more, but that was until the auction host snapped him out of it. It appears that the shocking stunt happened at the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner outside of Dallas, Texas on Sunday night.

Initially, people speculated that the man ruined Taylor’s guitar because of political reasons, being that she endorsed the Harris campaign for the 2024 presidential election cycle. Taylor announced her support for Harris earlier this month after the 2024 presidential debates when Democratic presidential nominee Harris went up against Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump. Taylor announced her support for Harris on Instagram.

"Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country," she wrote.

She added: "Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth."

Additionally, Taylor revealed that she was voting for Harris and her Vice President pick Tim Walz because she "fights for the rights and causes" close to her.

"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them," she expressed. "I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades."

Taylor ended with: "I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story." She signed her statement "with love and hope, Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady," mocking offensive comment that Trump's Vice President pick JD Vance made in 2021 when he said "childless cat ladies" were running America.
