Fans Urge NFL to Address Major Issue After Lions-Seahawks Game

The Detroit Lions hosted the Seattle Seahawks on "Monday Night Football," defeating their NFC foe, 42-29. While it looked to be a dominant performance from Detroit, a crucial call made by the officiating crew may have left points off the board for the Seahawks.

At one point in the game, the Seahawks were driving downfield, looking to make a comeback in the second half. While Seattle was knocking on the door in the Lions' territory, Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith threw a pass in the end zone intended for DK Metcalf.

While Metcalf was tracking the ball in the air, he was being pulled down by a Lions defensive back. The Detroit player tugged on Metcalf's arms and then wrapped him from the back, making it nearly impossible for the Seahawks receiver to bring down the touchdown.

After the game ended with a Seahawks loss, fans called for change. They believe there was a clear defensive pass interference against Metcalf, which could have changed the outcome of the game.

Fans think NFL teams should be able to challenge pass-interference calls, given controversial decisions like these made by the official crew on the field.

"It’s the stupidest thing in the world, in a world FILLED with tremendously stupid things, that the NFL doesn’t allow for pass interference calls or non calls to be challenged," said one fan.

"Just so everyone in the #nfl knows this is not pass interference in the Seahawks, Lions game according to referees standing less than 10 feet away." said another fan.

"Seems clear to me that if the nfl is replay assisting the spot of the ball, then, replay assisting pass interference should certainly be taking place as well!" mentioned one fan.

"I saw a lot of suspect PI calls tonight against Seattle and it baffles me the replay is not used in tight moments. Atleast 3 calls should have gone Seattle ways. Here’s one of em. Thassa touchdown dog," commented one fan.

"DK Metcalf not getting a pass interference call here is wiiiiild," said one fan.

"what is pass interference now?" said another fan.

The NFL tested the pass interference replay in 2019, but it was quickly eliminated after one season. The league struggled to find consistency with letting the play stand on the field or overturn a call, so 2019 was the sole season the NFL implemented this rule.

Despite the struggles in 2019, fans believe the NFL should bring back the replay of pass interference and let coaches challenge that call on the field.

Two other instances went viral this season in which fans debated a pass interference call, so frustration levels have continued to rise.

One of the supposed missed calls was a pass interference against the Kansas City Chiefs when they attempted to stop Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts from scoring a touchdown.

On another play that involved KC, Rashee Rice went up for a grab against the Cincinnati Bengals and the defensive back was flagged, which fans believe is certainly debatable.

With the loss, the Seahawks fell to 3-1 on the season. They were one of the hottest teams in the league before Week 4, Picking up wins against the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.

They'll look to bounce back from their "Monday Night Football" loss on Oct. 6 when they host the 1-3 New York Giants.
