MLB Legend Johnny Bench's 'Devastated' Reaction to Pete Rose's Passing

Baseball lost one of its most iconic players ever on Monday when it was reported that MLB legend and former Cincinnati Reds superstar Pete Rose has died at the age of 83.

Rose's former teammate with the Reds, Johnny Bench, was understandably crushed by the shocking news.

According to Marshall Kramsky of WCPO 9 , Bench was with Rose on Sunday, just a day before MLB hit king's sudden passing.

Bench, who was a two-time National League MVP, said that he has "a deep sense of loss" and that he's "devastated,” per Kramsky.

A photo of Rose with Bench and their former Reds teammates Dave Concepcion, George Foster, Tony Perez and Ken Griffey Sr. during Sunday’s Fiterman Sports Group event in Nashville was shared by TMZ Sports . Rose was seen in a wheelchair in the photo but was smiling.

Bench and Rose played several years together for the Reds from the late 1960s to the late 1970s. They were part of the Big Red Machine that won two World Series.

Rose, who was the NL MVP in 1973, played for the Reds from 1963 to 1978 before continuing his playing career with the Philadelphia Phillies. He also suited up for the Montreal Expos before returning to the Reds for the final three years of his incredible MLB career that concluded in 1986.

During his entire MLB stint, Rose produced 4,256 hits, including 160 home runs across 14,053 at-bats. His lifetime batting average was .303 and had a 79.5 bWAR .
