‘VEEP’ Reunion Call Raises $735K For Kamala Harris in Swing State

The cast of Veep reunited on Monday for a table read that raised a big chunk of money for actual Vice President Kamala Harris and her presidential campaign.

Almost the entire cast was present for a Zoom call to read the script for the Season Three episode “Crate,” in which Selina Meyer ( Julia Louis-Dreyfus ) finds out that the president is resigning, making her the president. A fitting episode, considering the election year plot twist that happened in real life when President Joe Biden announced he would not seek reelection and endorsed Harris.

But the cast and crew made it very clear during the call that Harris should not be compared to Selina Meyer. Matt Walsh , who played Selina’s press secretary Mike McLintock, provided a characteristically stumbling introduction to explain: “I’m here to say she 100 percent is… not . Kamala Harris is not Selina Meyer and Selina Meyer is not Kamala Harris. Selina Meyer is, however, one of the other candidates running for president this year. Selina Meyer is Donald Trump .”

The event was sponsored by the Democratic Party of Wisconsin , one of several crucial swing states in the 2024 election, and raised over $735,000. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that six anonymous donors agreed to match $145,000. More than 20,000 people joined the call to watch Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale reenact the infamous bathroom scene from “Crate” (which you can watch above) and the rest of the episode with Veep actors Gary Cole , Anna Chlumsky , Reid Scott , Timothy Simons , Sam Richardson , Sarah Sutherland , Clea DuVall , and Sufe Bradshaw . Special guest Larry David stepped in to read for Kevin Dunn , who couldn’t make the call. Other notable guests included Patton Oswalt , Kevin Smith , Jason Alexander , and Kumail Nanjiani . Stephen Colbert served as the host of the event. Veep creator Armando Iannucci and some Wisconsin lawmakers were also there for the two-hour event.
