Ricochet Shares Reason He Left WWE

Newly-signed AEW star Ricochet was a recent guest on Talk Is Jericho , and he shared several stories about his journey through NXT and WWE. He also told Chris Jericho about his decision to sign with AEW, and said his exit would’ve happened much earlier if not for former WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis.

“I had actually went to Laurinaitis and was ‘Hey guys, I kind of want to quit,’” he said. “I said I would go back to the indies and make like a quarter of the money I’m making now.”

Ricochet went on to say that many of his peers in the locker room at the time felt the same way. “So at the time, we were just talking, and I was venting my frustrations about everything. He was like, ‘We’re thinking about putting you in an Intercontinental Championship match. How do you feel about that? Is that something you’re interested in? Or do you still just want me to let them know you want to go?’ I was like, ‘You can still just let him know.’ Then later that night I’m watching, and it’s like, ‘Next week! Intercontinental Championship match!’”

He continued: “Next week, I did win, thanks to Johnny Knoxville,” he said. “Thank you Johnny Knoxville for helping me. I did win. I just said, ‘From here, I’m gonna do everything they ask of me.’ (But) when contract season comes around, if I don’t feel valued … then I know it’s ok to just walk. From that point, that was two and half years ago … I had made the decision, when the contract comes around, if I don’t feel good, I’m just gonna leave. And that’s not to the highest bidder, it’s who makes me feel the best.”
