Poynette cross country participated in a small five school invitational at Baraboo High School where the boys and girls teams finished in third place. Poynette was the smallest school among the five, but gave the Pumas the chance to compete against three Division 1 schools.

“It is a good test for us in the middle of our season and a chance to race against some teams we do not normally see,” says Kevin Frehner, head coach.

On the girls side, Piper Johnson, Tess Hushagen, Harley Seas and Zayne Hushagen finished in the top 20. Tess Hushagen and Johnson were the two medalists for Poynette with their 14th and third place finishes. Harley Seas and Zayne Hushagen occupied spots 18 and 19 with a four second difference in their times. Seas time of 23:50 was 52 seconds faster than her time last season on the same course. The girls team finished with an overall score of 74.

Wyatt See and Paceler Moll were the two medalists for the Poynette Pumas. See finished in second with a 17:19, and Moll placed in seventh with a 17:53. Moll’s time broke the freshman record by one second. JJ Davidson finished among the top 20 with a 16th place finish which was good for a time of 18:31. The race by Davidson was his first finishing time under 19 minutes. Thirteen of the boys placed among the 80 individuals that competed.

“Our entire boys team has taken big steps forward in terms of competitiveness and pain tolerance in the last two weeks,” says Frehner.

The Pumas will compete in the Nightfall Classic in Lake Mills on Friday, Oct. 4.
