MLB released its power rankings prior to the start of the postseason.

The list ranked the 12 remaining teams that will compete to take home the 2024 World Series. The New York Yankees were ranked as the third-best team and the top team in the American League. The Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers were the only teams listed ahead of the Yankees.

The Bronx Bombers finished the regular season with the best record in the AL. The team went 94-68 during the season and returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2022.

The Yankees have been among the best on both sides of the ball. The team had the third-highest OPS and hit the most home runs over the course of the year. The Yankees also scored the most runs in the American League.

The Bronx Bombers also had a solid year with their pitching staff. The Yankees ranked sixth in ERA and fifth for batting average against while striking out the fourth-most batters. The team finished in the top 10 in WHIP as well.

The Yankees will play the winner of the American League Wild Card series matchup between the Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals. The Orioles are listed eighth while the Royals are the worst team in the playoffs, according to MLB’s power rankings.

The Yankees were consistently among the league’s top teams throughout the season. MLB released 24 polls during the year. The Bronx Bombers never ranked lower than seventh.

The Yankees are scheduled to play their first ALDS game on Saturday.
