INDIANAPOLIS — Police in Indianapolis still have over 100 homicides cases listed as unsolved for this year.

In the latest monthly homicide report released Tuesday by Indianapolis Metro Police, detectives have only been able to close the book on just over 32-percent of homicide cases in 2024, leaving 106 still unsolved as of this writing.

There have been 156 total homicides as of the printing of this homicide report.

Also listed in the monthly report is the motive for each case, but that piece of information may be more confusing than it is helpful.

The motive in seventeen cases is listed as “Unknown”, while four cases are listed as “Other.” That motive designation is unclear and further explanation from IMPD was not included in the report. WIBC News reached out to IMPD last month for a textbook explanation for “Other” but have yet to receive that definition.

“Arguments” is the second leading motive behind Circle City killings, says IMPD. Fourteen cases list that as their defining motive.

Recklessness, abuse, robbery, fighting, and rape round out the motive list, each appearing just one time as the definitive explanation behind the taking of another person’s life.

IMPD states it has also been able to clear 41 homicide cases from last year, but that still leaves dozens more to solve in 2024 alone.
