(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A death investigation continues at a home in Wheatfield, Indiana.

Authorities in Jasper County say it involves a tip received last month that an individual had allegedly confessed to acquaintances about killing two of their undocumented children and burning their bodies in a backyard fire pit.

Detectives located suspects at a hotel in Newton County and conducted interviews. Although the suspects denied any involvement, their cell phones were seized as evidence.

The child who was in their care was taken into protective custody by the Indiana Department of Child Services.

A cadaver dog search of the property on the 4200 block of Old Orchard Lane uncovered bone fragments.

On Tuesday, bone fragments were submitted to a specialist, in Indianapolis, for analysis to determine if they were from an infant or an animal.

Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
