On Wednesdays, we’ll introduce the talented students who make up Year 9 of High School Confidential, powered by Danville Area Community College. Today: Arcola’s Stephanie Garza

The senior decided to pursue a career in nursing in 2020, not long after her father returned home after a 2/12 hospital stay while battling COVID-19.

“I remember him vividly talking about a specific nurse who explained everything thoroughly, what he should expect from the procedure, and overall just made him comfortable,” she said. “From then on I knew I wanted to become a nurse and help other people feel that way.”

Stephanie volunteered at Carle over the summer, which cemented her decision. It was an “amazing opportunity,” she said. “Not only did I get to interact with patients but I also was able to help where I could and gain experience in a hospital setting.”

Involved in National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Spanish Club and American Field Service, Stephanie is enjoying homecoming week at Arcola, which she enjoys because “of the people and the teachers. They create a positive environment.”

“I believe that nursing is the right path for me because it aligns with my desire to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives,” she said. “I find fulfillment in helping others and contributing to their well-being where I can provide support, comfort, and care in their most vulnerable moments.”
