A 41-year-old Pensacola man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he allegedly shot his acquaintance by mistake, according to the Escambia County Sheriff's.

Department spokesperson Morgan Lewis told the News Journal that David Kueker was taken into custody and booked into Escambia County Jail at 3:22 a.m. after deputies found a deceased male with gunshot wounds on North Loop Road.

In a Facebook post, the ECSO says Kueker and his 44-year-old unnamed acquaintance believed they were being threatened by someone and were "standing watch" outside of Kueker's sister's home.

"Kueker got into the backseat of a vehicle and fell asleep," the ECSO said. "His acquaintance, after realizing Kueker had fallen asleep, approached the car unarmed and with the use of a walker.

"Kueker awakened and saw a figure standing outside the window of the car," the release continued. "At this time, he fired one shot through the car window, killing his 44-year-old acquaintance."

Kueker is held without bond on one count of manslaughter.

"This action is deemed by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office to be grossly negligent, and he is being charged accordingly," Sheriff Chip Simmons said.
