Quiet calm conditions take hold across much of the Eastern US next 5 days, no storms & little rain

October is known for being the driest month of the year. It is also known for having more days with clear skies than any other month on the calendar. We have the dry part in play and we have been in a dry pattern for quite a while now as September produced very little rain. Now we wait for the clear skies part to come into play and that will happen once a cold front moves through the Northeast US today. The front is weak and has little in the way of shower activity. Most of that shower activity goes by to the north in Upstate NY and New England.

Clouds will still be around today with some sunny breaks and the odd brief sprinkle can't be completely ruled out but the vast majority of you will be dry. Most highs today will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Then skies will clear tonight and by Thursday morning we will be down in the 50s in most places.

One thing that stands out in this loop of the GFS model that goes into early next week is the lack of any storm activity from coast to coast. Weak cold fronts in the northwest flow will drop southeast from Canada and across the Northeast from time to time. One such front moves through Friday night. Another comes through next Monday night. Neither front has much rain with it and they are both followed by dry air masses. The one that comes through next Monday night has a cool air mass that will follow it for the middle of next week.

Sunshine will be back Thursday and we will see most highs in the low and middle 70s along with a south wind off the ocean. Coastal areas will be in the cooler upper 60s. Friday looks to be a repeat performance with sunshine and a few clouds. Most highs again will be in the 70s though temperatures could be a degree or two warmer verses Thursday. Saturday and Sunday look to be 2 nice days. Friday night a weak front passes with little in the way of clouds or any showers. Sunshine is back Saturday. Highs will be in the 70s. Sunday also will see sunshine with highs in the 70s though some warm spots will be close to 80 degrees while coastal areas both days will be a little cooler with local sea breezes. No major storms or fronts are on the horizon and no tropical storms or hurricane are pending. Disturbed weather in the Northwest Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico could develop into a tropical system over the weekend or early next week but the overall upper air conditions are not especially favorable for significant development at this time.
