John Amos’ daughter just learned of the actor’s August death: How did this happen ‘45 days ago’?

John Amos’ daughter, Shannon, just found out about his death — more than a month after his passing.

The late actor’s son, Kelly Christopher “K.C.,” broke the news of his father’s death on Tuesday, sharing that the “Roots” star died on Aug. 21 of natural causes at age 84.

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,” K.C., 53, said in a statement. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold … and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father.”

His son added: “He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”

K.C. also shared that the two made a documentary about the actor’s life that has yet to be released.

“He was my dad, my best friend, and my hero,” he concluded. “Thank you for your prayers and support at this time.”

Hours later, Shannon, 58, took to Instagram to share that she was left “without words” in the wake of the tragic news.

“Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21st,” she captioned her post . “We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you.

“This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free.

“My family and I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love, calls, and texts. Please continue to hold our family in your thoughts and prayers,” Shannon concluded her post. “Thank you.”

Despite Shannon’s shocking revelation, her relationship with Amos had its challenges.

In June 2023, she alleged that her father was the victim of “elder abuse” at the hands of an unnamed “caregiver.”

“The cruelty inflicted upon my dad leaves me questioning what kind of human could commit such acts,” she wrote on a since-deleted GoFundMe page.

A month later, Amos accused Shannon of elder abuse , which her representative denied.

“ She would be the primary suspect — if you would ,” Amos revealed in a video filmed from his hospital bed as he made a phone call. “I don’t know if that’s the right term to use or not. But she’s the one that I would attribute my elderly abuse to. It’s definitely a case of elderly abuse.”

In December 2023, the “Good Times” actor told People magazine that he has “an acrimonious relationship” with Shannon.

“Right now, it is somewhat acrimonious, but never mind what you might read or hear about in the paper or on this medium or that medium platform. Suffice it to say we are still family, and we love each other, and that’s the bottom line,” he said.

“It is his sibling, that is my daughter, my first child,” he explained. “I love her. K.C. loves his sister. We just have, I guess, what might be best described in the tabloids is an acrimonious relationship, but everything heals in time, and the love is still there.”

At the time, the late star added that he believes “all families go through trials and tribulations of some sort.”
