Dallas Cowboys just got another reason to pull off the trade everyone wants them to

The Dallas Cowboys could use some more weapons on offense as opposing defenses zero in on CeeDee Lamb. So far, the team has struggled to get consistent production from the team's receivers beyond Lamb, including WR2 Brandin Cooks, who has only one game over the 20-yard mark four weeks into the season.

Well, in Week 5 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cooks will not even take the field.

According to ESPN's Todd Archer , Cooks will be out this weekend "and potentially longer after an infection developed in his right knee following a procedure he had after remaining in NY following the win against the Giants."

That's a massive blow to the Cowboys offense that will force them to rely on Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks, and others to help Lamb and Dak Prescott out against a Mike Tomlin-coached defense .

The Cowboys are 2.5-point underdogs and their best path to pulling off the upset has to be the passing game , as running the football hasn't come easy to them. It's safe to say said path just got much harder with the latest on Cooks.

Cooks' injury is another reason why Cowboys should trade for Davante Adams

It's still early to know how long Cooks will be out for but given the nature of the schedule ahead for the Cowboys, every game matters. Archer reported his absence could be "potentially longer" and with it being an infection, it'll be tough to know for certain.

That's why the Cowboys should look into trading for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, who reportedly told his team he'd prefer to be moved before the deadline. Adams would be a perfect way to complement Lamb and would open up the passing game a whole lot as both All-Pros can line up from anywhere on the field and it'd keep the defenses guessing. Plus, at the NFL level, it's almost impossible to double two receivers.

Conflicting reports have emerged on the Cowboys' interest for Adams, which is not a surprise given the nature of how these reports are usually sourced from agents themselves. Mike McCarthy told reporters that he doesn't like to talk about players on other teams but did share some positive comments about the wide receiver he once coached in Green Bay.

"Personally, I have tremendous love and respect for Davante, had a chance to see him up there in Vegas in the preseason," McCarthy said on Wednesday .

Trading for Adams is well within the Cowboys' possibilities, as Over the Cap laid out recently:

The cost to trade for Adams at the moment would be $13.526 million. That number would drop by $968K each week that Adams’ remains on the Raiders roster. 11 teams in the NFL have the cap space necessary to make such a trade including the Jets, Cowboys, and Browns.

With all of that being said, it's tough to envision such a move happening. Chances are the Raiders will want a second or third round draft pick for the receiver, and the Cowboys have proven to be very conservative when it comes to pulling off a trade. The desperation has to be pretty high for them to do something like that, like it was in 2018 when the team did not have a WR1. Now, they have the second-highest paid wideout in the league in Lamb.

However, a reason for optimism could be the fact that Adams has no guaranteed money left on his deal beyond the 2024 season, so the Cowboys could view it as a one-year rental if they wanted to.
