HANFORD – The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the San Joaquin Valley, West Side Hills, and Sierra Foothills, effective through 11 PM PDT Thursday. Residents can expect dry conditions and significantly above-average temperatures this week, with a 70 to 90 percent chance of reaching triple-digit heat from today through Saturday.

A strong ridge of high pressure extending from the Central Pacific through Central California is dominating the weather pattern, leading to record-high temperatures. The forecast indicates maximum and minimum temperature anomalies are likely to reach extreme levels, with the potential for all-time highs for October. The probability of exceeding 100 degrees remains high today and Thursday, before gradually decreasing over the weekend.

Along with the intense heat, low afternoon humidity is anticipated across many areas, contributing to poor overnight temperature recovery, particularly in the mountains and desert regions.
