    LIBRARY HAPPENINGS: A season of events at the Sherwood library

    This fall is full of entertainment, enrichment and new skills in our season line-up of free events. From learning new digital skills, to live theater, a comedy and juggling act, storytimes, and hands-on robotics fun for kids, there’s something for everyone.

    Events for Adults (abbreviated)

    Theater at the Library

    Northwest Classical Theater Collaborative presents "The Year of Magical Thinking" by Joan Didion. Starring powerhouse actress Diane Kondrat and featuring an original violin score composed and performed by Michelle Alany, this story of unexpected loss examines the power of grief and how we can heal from its effects. Directed by Patrick Walsh.

    6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4. This is an after-hours event funded by Northwest Classical Theater Collaborative. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. No other library services will be available. Tea and appetizers provided.

    Digital Literacy Workshops / Talleres de alfabetización digital

    Join us for a series of workshops in English and Spanish at the SHARE Center (21920 S.W. Sherwood Blvd.). Topics include cybersecurity, mobile devices and Google Docs. Free dinner and child care provided starting at 5:30 p.m. Prizes for participants.

    Classes made possible in part from Friends of Sherwood Public Library and Sherwood School District.

    Class size is limited. Registration is required. Classes are held 6-7 p.m. on third Wednesdays: Oct. 16, Nov. 20, and Jan. 15.

    Easy Genealogy — Getting Started on Your Family History

    Genealogical Society of Washington County (GSWCO) volunteers present a hands-on introduction to using Ancestry.com. Registration is required. 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.

    Citizenship classes / Clases de ciudadanía

    Volunteers from Mission:Citizen offer free citizenship classes in English, and presenters can answer questions in English, Spanish and other languages. Each drop-in class covers a different topic. 6 p.m. Thursdays through Dec. 5. No class Oct. 31 or Nov. 28.

    Voluntarios de Mission Citizen ofrecerán un curso gratis. El curso es en inglés y los presentadores pueden responder preguntas en inglés, español y otros idiomas.     Expand your skills and build your resume by volunteering with other teens on library projects. Registration required. 4-5 p.m. first and third Thursdays of the month. Grades 7-12.

    Comedy, juggling and music for all ages! 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 19.

    STEAM Saturday

    This family favorite is back for the season! Drop in to work with 3D pens, Snap Circuits, robots and so much more. There is something for everyone at this station-based program. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.

    Storytimes

    Join us for an interactive session for youth and caregivers where we read books, sing songs and play action rhymes.

    Fun for Ones: 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays. Designed for walkers ages 12-23 months.Toddler Storytime: 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays. Designed for ages 2-3 years.All Ages Storytime: 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays.Baby Storytime: 10:15 a.m. Thursdays. Designed for ages 0-12 months.

    Sherwood Public Library, a Washington County Cooperative Library Services member library and department of the city of Sherwood, is located on the first floor at 22560 S.W. Pine St. Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 1-5 p.m. Sundays. All parking is free in downtown Sherwood.

    The library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14, for a staff training. The Pine Street bookdrop will be open and e-books and accounts are always available at wccls.org.
