From September 30 to October 3, the CTAE, Fine Arts, Band, and Guidance Team are hosting a Disaster Relief Collection to provide necessities to the areas that were hit by Hurricane Helene.

Teachers at Bainbridge High School are offering a helping hand to communities that were affected by the storm. Will Parker, Assistant Band Director, Mark Lashley, FFA advisor, and Scott Morehouse, CTAE Director, worked together and sent out emails to the school system, and shared information on social media about starting a collection. After sharing the information, all of the schools in Decatur County participated.

Community members are also encouraged to bring items. Items can be dropped off at the front entrance at Bainbridge High School. Parker states, “We’re collecting until Thursday and try to deliver Friday or Saturday if we can.” The items are up to the person, but Parker asks that “they are non-perishable foods, water, or anything that people will need.” People have also brought cat and dog food. “We lived through Hurricane Michael as well, ” Morehouse stated, “so we sort of got an idea of what we have to do without.” Additionally, the teachers don’t want fuel, cash money, or generators. They are asking for small items that can be dispersed throughout.

Lashley stated “the main focus was on the lower portion of South Georgia where the eye of the storm hit. So, we’re dropping in Valdosta with emergency services and then we’ll take the rest to Waycross.” Other counties like Bacon County, Atkinson County, Coffee County, and Douglas County will be visited as well.

Overall, the teachers appreciate the support from the community and the students.
