A win at home against a conference opponent is always a good feeling. The Owatonna volleyball team was riding high after a win against Rochester Century Thursday, as it headed into an invite in Rochester on Saturday.

The Huskies did not fair so well at the invitational, though, as they played in five matches and won only one. They quickly rebounded Tuesday night, as they once again traveled to Rochester to take on the John Marshall Rockets. They swept the Rockets 3-0.

In their first match at the invitational, the Huskies lost the first match against the Lewiston-Altura Cardinals 26-24, but won the second match 25-21 to force a third set. The Cardinals won the third set to win the match 15-12.

Owatonna’s second match of the day was not as close as their first, with them losing both of their sets against Alden-Conger to quickly fall to 0-2 on the day.

Their third game had them face off against conference opponent Rochester John Marshall Rockets, which was their only conference opponent at the invite. Owatonna quickly fell behind to the Rockets, but they rallied back to win the first set 26-24 in overtime. They then rolled away with a 25-6 second set victory for their first and only win of the day. They lost to Sartell and Spring Grove both by a score of 2-1.

The Huskies played the Rockets once again on Tuesday night at Rochester John Marshall High School, and the Huskies once again dominated, winning the match 3-0. The Rockets have yet to win a game in Big 9 Conference play.

With the two wins over the Rockets, the Huskies are still near the top of the Big 9 standings, with them in third place just behind Northfield and Mankato West. The Huskies will play the Northfield Raiders next week on Tuesday before they have a home matchup on Thursday against Albert Lea.
