OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala (WHNT) — Pathway Inc., an all-girls treatment center in Owens Cross Roads, remains open.

According to city leaders, it was supposed to close yesterday, October 1 , after the city said it would not renew the center’s business license.

However, News 19 visited the facility today and it appears to be fully operational. In fact, Pathway Inc.’s attorney, Rick Hall, confirmed to News 19 that the facility is open and plans to remain that way.

The order to close the doors came after riots broke out on Sept. 2.

On Sept. 3, Owens Cross Roads Police Chief Jason Dobbins told News 19 they were shutting the doors. He said he had, “spoke with the mayor and they are both in agreeance that they will not issue a business license for anyone to operate a facility such as that at that location.”

Now, Diane Miller, a neighbor who lives just a few houses down the road, continues to fear for her safety.

“I want it gone. You know, I want it gone as soon as possible. I feel a lot safer. Really, i do, because, you know, with the, last episode when i went down there, you know, it’s going to happen again,” said Miller.

She said that she has seen consistent incidents with the facility down the road, no matter what name it changes to.

I also reached out to the attorneys representing the City of Owens Cross Roads to get their response on the matter.

“The peaceful well-being of our community is our top priority as a municipality. We wish for all residents, whether long term or just presently so at this time, to know that we are working diligently to ensure all businesses located in our community are operating at the highest level,” Thomas Jarvinen said.

We will continue to report updates as we get them.
