Motorcyclist hits child, alcohol suspected as factor

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A minor pedestrian walking home from school was hit by a suspected drunk motorcyclist and taken to the hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday to the intersection of Cheyenne Boulevard and Wolfe Avenue, on the south end of the Broadmoor neighborhood, on a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they learned that the motorcyclist was heading eastbound on Cheyenne Boulevard when the motorcycle went off the road and up onto the sidewalk, hitting one of two kids walking home from school. CSPD said the pedestrian did not suffer any serious injuries, though they were taken to the hospital.

The motorcyclist, identified as Pascal Laos, was also taken to the hospital, and after being released, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and other charges related to the crash. Cheyenne Boulevard was closed for an extended period of time for the crash investigation, though it has since reopened.
