Lakers Star Facing Backlash for Strong Disagreement With Head Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers finished with a 47-35 record last season. Defeating the New Orleans Pelicans in the Play-in Tournament, the Lakers earned a first round date with the Denver Nuggets.

Eliminated by Denver for the second-straight season, Los Angeles made a head coaching change by firing Darvin Ham and hiring JJ Redick. This move was controversial due to Redick's lack of coaching experience, but the former Duke star did play 15 seasons in the NBA.

Redick is tasked with helping LeBron James and Anthony Davis reenter championship contention. This duo has produced just two playoff series wins since their title in 2020.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Davis made it clear he strongly disagrees with his head coach on the topic of analytics.

"It doesn't matter to me," Davis said after being told his head coach is very interested in analytics. "What matters is we have more points than the other team at the end of a game. That's all I care about. These things that they come up with, as far as analytics... It doesn't even matter. It has no importance to me whatsoever."

Davis has been facing backlash from fans for this strong disagreement with his head coach.

"Basketball is literally a numbers game… lol," The Hoop Kitchen wrote on X.

One Lakers fan called out Davis for his lack of improvement since entering the NBA.

"What has AD improved on since he came into to the nba?" Lakers Fan BDA asked.

Even media members joined in on the Davis criticism. Claire de Lune of the Guardian believes Davis contradicted himself.

"how does he think they come up with the score," de Lune wrote after quoting Davis' disregard for numbers.

Another fan went as far as calling out Davis for co-signing the Lakers' trade for Russell Westbrook in 2021.

"Makes sense now why he wanted Westbrook so much," the fan wrote.

The topic of analytics is a controversial one, and it seems Davis and Redick are on opposite ends of the debate.

As for the reaction to what Davis said, several fans firmly disagreed with his statement.
