Real Madrid has wildcard alternative to Trent Alexander-Arnold in best news possible for Liverpool

Real Madrid has identified Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro as a possible alternative to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold is into the final nine months of his contract at Anfield and, as things stand, will be permitted to negotiate with foreign clubs from January 1 over a possible free transfer next summer.

Liverpool does not want to lose Alexander-Arnold, but finds itself in a tricky situation regarding player contracts, with important players in Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah also into the final year of their deals.

Real Madrid has been heavily linked with a move for Alexander-Arnold, but a report by CaughtOffside says the European champion is considering moving for Porro if the England defender ends up staying at Anfield. It is claimed that Spurs fear that Porro could be tempted by a possible return to his homeland, with a possible €65million ($72m) transfer fee mooted.

Alexander-Arnold has been at Liverpool since joining the club as a young boy in 2004, and made his senior debut in 2016. Since then, he has played more than 300 times for the Reds. The 25-year-old signed his last contract extension in 2021, penning a four-year deal that will expire next summer, and there have been few hints about how the current situation will end up playing out.

Alexander-Arnold admitted in September that he has no intention of letting the talks between him and Liverpool play out in public. “I want to be a Liverpool player this season [as a minimum] is what I will say,” Alexander-Arnold said when asked if he wants to stay at Liverpool in the long term. “I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public and this one won’t be either.”

“The most important thing is always trophies if I am honest,” Alexander-Arnold responded when he was asked for the most important factor in the decision-making about his future. "I want to win trophies, I am a player who is highly motivated by trophies and winning things and being elite. So that is probably the main factor of anything, if you have a personality that is elite, who wants to win and will do anything to win then that is what drives me.”
