A Connecticut man is accused of assaulting a pregnant woman during an attempted carjacking that took place at a Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru on Tuesday (October 1).

William Rodriguez , 28, was charged with breach of peace, second-degree assault on emergency medical personnel, third-degree robbery, second-degree reckless endangerment, assault on a pregnant person, third-degree assault, interfering with an officer and two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, FOX News reports. Rodriguez pulled into the parking lot directly in front of the victim's car and allegedly exited his vehicle, climbed into the passenger side of her vehicle and demanded the keys. The four months pregnant woman refused and the suspect began punching her before she managed to escape the vehicle and run into the Dunkin' Donuts for help.

A drive-thru employee witnessed the assault and notified two coworkers, who ran outside and restrained Rodriguez as he attempted to flee the scene in the victim's vehicle. Rodriguez continued to struggle after responding officers intervened and reportedly bit a medic's hand after being taken into custody.

Officers found that the vehicle Rodriguez was initially driving, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, was previously reported to be stolen. The suspect is being held on a $250,000 bond for the charges stemming from the assault, as well as additional charges totaling $475,000 for multiple outstanding warrants.
