Creston Police Chief Bryon Meshew , who was struck by two motorcycles at Mid-Ohio Raceway in August, was in a rough condition. However, in recent weeks, he has made significant strides in recovery from his injuries, going from relying on machines to breathing on his own and regaining his ability to speak.

Meshew's wife, Sarah, and his children, Izy and Izzak, have been by his side alternating between staying at the hospital and managing daily life. The emotional toll has been significant, but Sarah Meshew describes the experience as a "test of patience and faith."

Despite the challenges, the family remains hopeful, with Sarah Meshew noting her husband's progress over the last two weeks has been nothing short of miraculous.

While Bryon Meshew continues to heal, the community has rallied around him and his family in overwhelming support.

"The community has been amazing throughout this situation, and we feel so loved," Sarah Meshew said in an email provided to The Daily Record through the Creston Village mayor's office. "It's been touching to see the many different groups of people come together to support Bryon and our family with messages, calls, #blueforbryon lights, donations and benefit fundraisers. My gratitude is beyond what I can put into words."

The Creston community and surrounding areas have indeed shown their love and appreciation for Bryon Meshew, organizing events and fundraisers to support his recovery.

A benefit ride is scheduled for Sunday with a meal at the Wayne County F.O.P Lodge 94, 10035 Akron Road, Rittman, afterward.

Ride registration begins will be 9:30-10:50 a.m. at Norwayne High School, 350 S Main St., Creston. Kickstands up at 11 a.m. Total time for the 67-mile ride is about 1 1/2 hours.

More details, including the route, for the ride can be found on the FOP's Facebook page .

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Meshew’s medical costs as well.

There will be Fall Fun Gathering 5-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at 710 Vanderbilt Road, Lexington, to raise funds for the family.

The event, hosted by the Jack Butler family and Chapel Hill Church, offers family-friendly activities including hayrides, a zip line, square dancing, cake walks, food and a bonfire. The zip line will operate 5-7 p.m. and square dancing will take place 7-10 p.m.

Preparing to move to rehabilitation facility; interim Creston chief named

As Bryon Meshew continues his recovery, his family is preparing for him to be transferred to a rehabilitation facility, though the duration of his stay remains uncertain, according to Sarah Meshew's email. Recovery will depend largely on how quickly his body responds to treatment.

Police officer Jeff Kinney was appointed acting police chief in Creston until Meshew’s return, according to Mayor Brenda Norris.

Norris emphasized Bryon Meshew's dedication to both his community and his department, in an email to The Daily Record.

"I've worked alongside Chief Meshew in the many community outreach programs he holds each year," Norris said. "I've also witnessed firsthand the way he rallies around his officers, friends and family when they are in need. To say he has a big heart would be an understatement. I'm thrilled so many organizations, municipalities, residents, and law enforcement communities can join forces to help a guy who is always there to help others."

Bryon Meshew has long been a fixture in the Creston community, organizing events such as community outreach programs and supporting various initiatives to strengthen ties between local law enforcement and residents, Norris said in the email, noting his compassion and commitment to service are widely recognized, making the outpouring of support in his time of need unsurprising.

For updates on Bryon Meshew’s recovery and additional ways to help, the community can follow the Village of Creston’s Police Department on Facebook .

"We cannot thank you all enough," Sarah Meshew said.
