BUHL—City leaders in Buhl are looking at ways to pare down the city’s 2024 payable 2024 proposed levy before the final levy is set in December.

The Buhl City Council, at a special meeting held September 26 set the city’s preliminary levy at $466,000, which is $49,500, or 11.88% above the current levy, according to Buhl City Administrator Tony Jeffries.

The preliminary levy was due September 30, and is the amount reflected on proposed property tax statements mailed out by the county. Once set, the city has the ability to lower that amount, but cannot exceed it.

Buhl Mayor Brandin Carter, in a phone interview earlier this week, said he feels the council will be able to reduce the levy from the preliminary amount in the next couple of months.

Carter said the city has already identified several areas that could potentially be reduced to lower the levy.

“Everyone knows preliminary budgets are always set to the high mark, and we look forward to working on that,” Carter said.

The council is anticipated to set the final levy on December 17.
