Gabe on the Go: A fall escape at Wilson’s Orchard and Farm

CUMMING, Iowa — While the weather hasn’t felt much like fall, fall activities are in full swing at Wilson’s Orchard and Farm in Cumming.

The orchard opened its Des Moines metro location in April of 2024 and is already becoming a popular spot, especially on weekends. So far this year, visitors have been able to pick and purchase flowers, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Now, it’s time for apple and pumpkin picking.

Visitors who want to pick apples or pumpkins also get to enjoy a tractor ride and a sampling session for apples. Other fall activities include a corn maze and hay rides.

Wilson’s Orchard and Farm owner Paul Rasch says apples are at the heart of the place. You can buy apple cider, sparkling cider, and hard apple cider at the market.

Yes–Wilson’s has a market with produce, baked goods, and other items for sale too. So if picking apples yourself doesn’t sound appealing, there’s still a way to enjoy some fresh produce. Next to the market is Ciderhouse Restaurant and Bar, which serves lunch and dinner with a menu that changes each season. At the end of the building is the event center.

Elsewhere on the property, Wilson’s recently opened a play barn for kids. The entire property is expansive, from the main market and restaurant to the ponds and flower fields to the orchard itself.
