Golden Knights Win Contract Dispute Against Robin Lehner

I guess the headline should say everybody wins but more importantly, the Vegas Golden Knights got some great news prior to puck drop for the 2024-25 NHL Season. Robin Lehner didn’t show up to training camp this year and Kelly McCrimmon fought like hell to get his money off the books . That’s exactly what happened, except Lehner will also be paid at the same time.

Frank Seravalli over at Daily Faceoff reported the following:

“Sources told Daily Faceoff the final year of injured goaltender Robin Lehner’s $25 million contract will not count against the Golden Knights’ salary cap this season after a settlement was reached between the Golden Knights, NHL and NHL Players’ Association. Lehner was in violation of his contract when he failed to report for a mandatory medical exam to open training camp; Lehner previously made the Golden Knights aware he was unable to report for personal reasons.”

Lehner, 33, would have carried a $5 million AAV on the books. That money is now gone. Vegas is now approximately $1.46 million in cap space to play with. Something that will be important come the trade deadline.

Vegas will roll with Adin Hill and Ilya Samsonov in net to start the season. Lehner was the Vegas starter but hasn’t played since 2022.

The good news for Lehner is that he will still be paid. $4.5 million will be sent his way this season. All from tax-free Nevada. He’s going to need every penny of it considering the personal life problems he’s dealing with right now.
