    Hayward girls golf advances in playoffs

    The Hayward Hurricanes girls golf team is advancing to the WIAA sectional playoffs on Oct. 7 thanks to their second-place finish at the Spooner regional Wednesday Oct. 2.

    The host Spooner Rails placed first at the regional with an 18-hole score of 368 followed by Hayward with 388 and Luck-Unity with 428. All three are advancing to the sectional as teams.

    Spooner’s Avery Voeltz shot an 80 to win the first place medal on Wednesday. Hayward’s Tara Eckes was third with an 81. Also scoring for the Canes were Sofia Bonicatto, seventh with 98; Lexie Sullivan, 104; Macie Mavis 105; and Emma Blinkwolt, 139.

    Advancing to the sectional as individuals are Reagan Eberhardt, Northwestern, 91; Grace Schmidt, Northwestern, 103; and Annika Ahlberg, Rice Lake, 104.

    The WIAA Division 2 sectional tournament will be at Luck Golf Course Monday Oct. 7. Tee time will be 9 a.m.
