As the Ohio State Buckeyes head into this Saturday, October 5, they look to keep their undefeated record alive as they host their fellow Big Ten opponent, the Iowa Hawkeyes. While Iowa is the first team on Ohio State's schedule to have an upper-tier defense, history is not in favor of the Hawkeyes when they face OSU.

In total, the two teams have played against each other 19 total times , with the first game taking place on November 11, 1989. In that game, Ohio State defeated Iowa 28-0, which would eventually pave the way to 15 more wins as the Buckeyes lead the series 16-3.

The last time Ohio State lost to Iowa was back in 2017 in Iowa City as the Hawkeyes put up 55 points to the Buckeyes 24. For reference, that was when J.K. Dobbins and Terry McLaurin were still on the team and J.T. Barrett threw an astonishing four interceptions.

For Buckeye fans, they should feel confident that something like that won't happen again, as the past ten matchups Ohio State has owned, winning eight out of the ten games. And with an average score of 31 points in each Iowa matchup, it should be no question that quarterback Will Howard and company reach that stat, as the Bucks have averaged nearly 50 points per game this season.

But as stated before, Iowa's defense is going to be the best the Buckeyes have seen this season so far, so it won't be a walk in the park. As long as Ohio State is able to keep up their defensive intensity of holding their opponents to six points a game, history should repeat itself when it comes down to the final whistle.

The game will take place in Ohio Stadium at 3:30 PM EST and on CBS.
