A company called Crime Grade prides themselves in providing detailed breakdowns of crime occurs in cities and towns around the United States – and their data may reveal some scary details related to places in Colorado.

According to the company's report on Denver , a crime is committed every 56 seconds, with the city scoring an 'F' overall in their grading system, which is created on a 'crime per capita' basis. Broken down by category of crime, 'violent crime' scored a D- and 'property crime' and 'other crime' scored an F.

Mapping provided by the company shows that crime is most likely to occur in the downtown Denver area and east side, while the western side of the metro area is relatively safer, including several areas that fall among the 'A' grades on their scale.

Meanwhile, Colorado Springs was also rated as an 'F' when it came to overall crime, though violent crime was rated as a relatively higher 'C-' grade. Geographically, the same goes for this city, with crime being more prominent in the downtown area and on the east side while portions of the western metro experience some relief. As far as timing goes, a crime is said to occur in Colorado Springs every seven minutes.

When it comes to other cities along the Colorado Front Range, Fort Collins received a 'C' score, though mapping shows a high concentration of this crime in certain areas – mostly downtown and in the northern metro. Boulder and Pueblo each ranked as a 'C-'.

Some mountain towns did perform better when it came to the crime per capita grading scale – Telluride got a B+ overall, as did Steamboat Springs. The Silverthorne and Dillon area were graded as a A-, though nearby Breckenridge ranked as a C+. Vail ranked as a solid A and Durango got an A-.

And for the sake of comparison to Denver's 'crime every 56 seconds' situation, a crime is said to occur in Vail every 3.75 days.

Think these grades depict the actual situation in Colorado? Let us know in the comments.
