CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Il. (KMOX) - If you drive an electric vehicle, you'll soon find charging stations popping up in Illinois.

The Illinois-based company EV Box has donated dozens of free chargers to the state, with one of the firsts already installed in Frank Holten State Park.

"These are the first of 40 that they have donated for installation at parks, historic sites, museums and beaches," said Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

Frank Holten State Park was one of the first of dozens of state parks to have free Electric Vehicle chargers installed. Pritzker says this initiative pays off in multiple ways.

"We'll get more people out to enjoy nature, while reducing air pollution that comes from internal combustion engine vehicles," said Pritzker.

Pritzker adds making E-Vs more convenient to drive is also a benefit of this initiative.

EV Box announced an additional 15 chargers will be installed across Illinois, bringing the total to 55.
