Amazon plans to add helping hands to meet the holiday rush

Last year Americans spent over $900 billion on holiday-related purchases.

As for "Amazon," as the name suggests, the online-retail giant is expected to rake in 42.1% of all U.S. online holiday sales. That's a whopping $112.3 billion, if you're counting at home.

No wonder Amazon hopes to add a quarter of a million extra workers to meet the holiday rush.

"The holiday season is always exciting for Amazon and our customers, and it’s a time when we create a lot of new jobs for people who want to earn extra money for a few months or kick off a career at Amazon," the company said in a news release.

According to the news release, Amazon is investing $2.2 billion into additional pay for fulfillment and transportation employees.
