Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell converts one of six successful field goal tries during the season opener Sept. 8 at the Atlanta Falcons. Boswell was named AFC special teams player of the month for September.

Chris Boswell began the season by providing all of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ points via an unprecedented effort in the opener. Boswell continued his near-perfect play over the next three weeks, and on Thursday the NFL named him the AFC’s special teams player of the month for September.

Boswell went 17 for 18 on converting placekicks over the first four Steelers games, his only miss a 62-yard try at the end of a half that would have set a team record. After going 6-for-6 in the 18-10 season-opening win at the Atlanta Falcons, Boswell has made all five of his attempts from inside 60 yards since. That includes 5-for-5 on field goals from between 50-59 yards for the season. Boswell also is perfect on six extra-point attempts.

Boswell leads the AFC in field goals made (11), field goals of 50 or more yards and field goal percentage (91.7%).

After Boswell became the first kicker in Steelers history to hit three field goals of 50 yards or more in one game, he was given the league’s AFC weekly honor for special teams.

This is Boswell’s second player of the month award, also in December/January 2015. That was at the end of his first season with the Steelers.
