Beloved Mets infielder projected to get just $1.2 million contract

The New York Mets made a game-changing move throughout the 2024 Major League Baseball regular season.

Typically, a season-changing move would be landing a superstar player like Juan Soto or Corbin Burnes. Both of those players will be free agents this winter and could change things for any organization. New York made an equally important move at a fraction of the cost.

The Mets signed veteran utility man Jose Iglesias in December to a minor league deal, and he began the 2024 season in the minors. He didn't have his contract selected until the end of May, and he completely changed the Mets once he arrived.

New York wasn't in a good spot when Iglesias arrived, but things almost immediately changed. He shined on the field and also brought an important voice to the clubhouse. He made things lighter, and his boisterous personality and singer persona made everyone's lives better in New York.

Iglesias appeared in 85 games for the Mets this year after many teams passed over him. He slashed .337/.381/.448 with four home runs and 26 home runs while racking up 3.1 wins above replacement.

He certainly was a good pickup for the Mets, and it would make a lot of sense to bring him back in 2025. Iglesias will be a free agent and is projected to get a deal worth just over $1.2 million over one year.

That deal certainly is one that the Mets can afford and should be all over.
