Former NASCAR driver bags single-seater test after abrupt exit

Hailie Deegan is set to make her professional debut in the world of single-seater racing this November, joining the Toney Driver Development (TDD) team for the upcoming Formula Regional Americas series.

This comes after her abrupt exit from the NASCAR Xfinity Series with AM Racing earlier this year.

The event will take place from November 2-3 at the renowned Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Texas. Speaking about her new opportunity, Deegan shared her excitement, noting her familiarity with the COTA track and her enthusiasm to tackle the unique challenges presented by single-seater racing. Her move comes amid growing speculation about her future prospects, possibly including appearances in the IndyCar feeder series, Indy Nxt. She explained :

"I'm beyond excited to be making my first open-wheel start at COTA with TDD.

"I have competed in a handful of races at COTA, and I am looking forward to my first open-wheel race start being at a track I'm familiar with. Standing starts will be new for me, but I'm always up for a challenge and the opportunity to continue to learn and drive."

Deegan, at just 23 years of age, boasts a notable racing history, with three years of experience in NASCAR’s Truck Series. Her career highlights include two sixth-place finishes and a best result of 12th place in NASCAR's Xfinity Series, alongside victories at regional NASCAR events.

Joining Deegan in representing TDD at COTA will be 17-year-old Brady Golan, a promising young racer who has competed in the USF2000 and USF Juniors series. The Toney Driver Development team, newly entered in the Formula Regional Americas series with support from Kiwi Motorsport, is eager to make its mark on the national scene. Nathan Toney, the team boss, acknowledged the challenges they face as they debut in the series:

"[It] is going to be no easy task, especially as the 2024 season is set to conclude at COTA. I am thankful for the opportunity to enter TDD, Brady, and Hailie, but it could not have been possible if it wasn't for the help of some very talented and big-hearted people.”

He went on to acknowledge the support from Kiwi Motorsport, stating:
